Are Your Items Not Selling On Etsy?

Are You Frustrated Because You Have Not Made Any Sales on Etsy?

It can be very tough just starting out selling handmade items online. Selling on Etsy can be just as difficult as selling on your own website.  Often people want reassurance that they are making the right things and are going in the right direction. It is a misconception that you can make one or two things, quickly sell them, and then confidently start making more. That is definitely the least expensive and most cautious way to go about selling but it may be the reason you are not selling.

Let’s take Etsy for example. You have a couple handmade items that are amazing and your friends love them. You decide to sell them online and set up a beautiful Etsy store. You do everything right. Your photos are stunning, titles and tags are perfect, and prices are reasonable.

A couple weeks go by and not only have you not made any sales, but you have barely had any views. Like a lot of sellers you become frustrated and start doubting yourself. Do not get discouraged.

It can be difficult to take a little leap of faith, but what you really need to do is continue expanding your offerings. You need to make more items.

Having more things for sale does a couple things. First, people like to browse through a lot of items and have a lot of choices. Second, you need a lot of offerings just to be visible. This is true whether you are on Etsy, Ebay, or have your own ecommerce site.

How many items do you need? Generally speaking, around 40 different things. The more the better though. There is not exact number. You will find that as you create and have more items for sale, not only will your views increase because more people will be finding you, but your sales will increase because people will have a better chance of finding something that really appeals to them in your store.

This does not mean that you have to have an entire line of products before even starting to sell online. Start off with what you have, get your store or website set up, and continue to add to it. Momentum will build over time and it just takes patience and perseverance to get to that point. Often the most difficult of part of building a business is motivation. You have to be internally driven and motivated. Do not let your motivation depend on receiving a lot of sales at the start.

Good luck and keep on building.

  4. You may want to check-out Storemate.com and artfire.com as good alternatives.
If you want something different try out storemate.com, I registered on storemate.com and seen some sharp increase in the traffice directed to my website.
Unlike easy and artfire they are not restricted to handmade, I get to promote to a bigger audience (all design buffs).
The best about storemate is, I get to help out my customers in real-time using their ‘Talk-About’ feature. Helping out with questions on custom options, shipping queries etc in realtime.
I even passed on exclusive discounts to them during these help-out sessions, which turned casual enquiries into quick sales and followers for me.
I have been Storemate’s “Featured Designer” for 3 weeks, straight! ( My proud moment!) :D
