Why Should You Renew or Relist Your Items on Etsy and What is the Difference?
Renewing or Relisting an item means you are basically extending your listing. Both terms mean the same thing. Renewed listings retain their view counts, admirers, and website address. Sellers relist items for a variety of reasons, sometimes it is a selling strategy.
Why would you renew or relist your item?
1. Because it sold and you would like to sell another identical item.
If you sell an item but are able to make another identical one, relist that sold item rather than starting a new listing. Since it will retain its admirers you stand a better chance of a previous viewer returning to purchase your item.
2. Because the listing expired.
Listings are active for 4 months at which point they will need to be renewed or relisted to remain online. Each time you renew an item you pay a listing fee, like you would with new items.
3. Because your current listing is multiple pages back in the category and you want it to be more visible.
Many sellers renew/relist to get more views. Just like listing new items on a regular basis brings in more visitors, you can also just renew the items you have if you do not have something new to list. You would be renewing an item that has not yet expired. The listing would be extended another 4 months and you would pay a listing fee.
Renewing will bring your item to the top of the page, like a new listing. An item will get the most visibility right after it has been relisted/renewed. New items or relisted items get placed in front of categories. Many items end up selling shortly after they are renewed.
Visibility Can Depend on How a Page is Sorted
Newer listings are shown in order when “Most Recent” is selected at the top of the page.
There is also a “Most Relevant” link next to “Most Recent.” New listings do not get shown at the top when the results are sorted by “Most Relevant.”
Depending on how visitors have their results sorted, your relisted or renewed items may not be shown at the top meaning you may not always get the spike in traffic you expect when you renew.
Experiment with relisting your items to see if it leads to more sales. As you have more items you can schedule items to be relisted on a daily basis. Sellers with many items will often relist three items each day. If you relist multiple items in the same category, space them out throughout the day to get the most views.
Good luck selling
