What You Should Be Doing While Sales Are Down
Business has its ups and downs. Some businesses run in cycles more than others. You may sell year round or you may have more of a seasonal business. Just that you were busy this time last year does not mean you will have any orders this year. The key is to make use of the down time and slow periods.
What are you doing in your down time?
I’ll start off by saying what you should not be doing. You should not be stressing out. Take a quick look through your website, make sure everything is still functioning correctly. Also run a quick Google search just to make sure you still show up in the search results. If you do not see any obvious reasons for the slowed sales, realize that it is probably just out of your control. It just happens.
Make use of the down time by doing the single most important thing, coming up with new ideas and making new products. Expanding your offerings will pay big dividends over time. More than likely when sales are up you are too busy to even think about making anything new. When things slow down take a look through your idea notebooks and start making new items. When sales pick up you will have more items to show and a greater chance of someone finding something they would like to purchase.
If you have been in business for a while you are probably used to the cycles and do not pay them much attention. If you are fairly new to this and business starts to slow down it may cause you to worry a bit. They key is to stay focused, not worry, and be relaxed enough to keep creating.
